Art begins in one person—and continues in another.

At Tranekaer Center in Tranekær on Langeland, we create a setting for art experiences, art exhibitions, arts and crafts, and lectures, where art is close to people—close to the landscape, close to conversation, and close to everyday life.

In the historic buildings of the old sugar factory, we are creating spaces for contemporary art and new artistic encounters. Here, the site’s cultural history is brought together with contemporary art and engaging outreach.

An annual event

Every year, KUNST brings together audiences and artists in Tranekær for exhibitions, talks, and opportunities for reflection.

As an annual event at Tranekaer Center, KUNST serves as a gathering place where the public, artists, and artisans come together to enjoy art experiences, exhibitions, lectures, and shared experiences—as well as occasional musical performances.

We are passionate about the creative process. About the materials. About hands that shape clay, stone, colors, and metal. About stories that take shape through words, images, and space.

At KUNST, you can explore paintings, drawings, ceramics, glass art, sculpture, jewelry, and other forms of arts and crafts—created by artists from Langeland, the rest of the country, and abroad.

For us, art is a living exploration of what it means to be human.

A place where art can take root

Tranekær and Langeland have a strong artistic tradition.

Art and Light Through the Decades

Langeland carries its light like a quiet signature. The sea opens up the horizon, the wind shapes the landscape, and the changing seasons paint new layers across fields and coastlines. Since the 1960s, artists have been drawn here to work within this unique interplay between tranquility and untamed nature.

Here, a space for contemplation emerges. Studios are springing up in barns and old houses. Workshops glow in the winter darkness. Over the decades, a vibrant cultural heritage has been created, where experimentation and tradition go hand in hand, and where creative energy continues to pulse.

The island is teeming with artists, studios, and exhibitions all year round. Art on Langeland is a true asset—culturally, socially, and economically—and an important part of the island’s identity.

TICKON in Tranekær

Art and Nature in Harmony

The Tranekær Center is located practically as an extension of the Palace Park, TICKON - Tranekær International Center for Art and Nature. The historic park, with its nature art and rare trees, serves as a living backyard for the center.

TICKON in Tranekær is an international center for art and nature, where site-specific nature art is integrated into the Castle Park.

At TICKON, art and landscape merge. Site-specific nature art blends into its surroundings and changes along with them. We share values centered on art in nature, contemplation, and respect for the living environment. This collaboration reinforces the narrative of Tranekær as a hub for art and nature.

When you visit KUNST, we invite you to also take a stroll through the Palace Park and experience the nature art at TICKON in Tranekær. Together, KUNST and TICKON create a holistic experience where art in spaces and art in the landscape mirror and enhance one another.

Tranekær Wishing Tree – a living work of art

At the edge of the forest near Sukkerfabrikken stands the approximately 250-year-old sycamore tree—the Tranekær Wishing Tree—created by artist Livia Drake.

When you visit KUNST, you can stop by the tree with an intention. It could be for the day, for the month, for the year, or for something that’s calling to you in your life right now.

Here, art becomes a quiet act where nature, thought, and humanity come together.

Cooperation and Community

When we invite artists to exhibit or give lectures, we do so in dialogue with the venue and the local art community. Many artists on Langeland are friends of the venue. We collaborate across boundaries—across generations, across disciplines, and between local and international voices.

Collaborations are a central part of KUNST.

Gallerie Rasmus – Expertise and Quality

The collaboration with Gallerie Rasmus helps elevate the quality of the art experiences and ensures that visitors encounter powerful, curated artistic voices at Tranekær.

KUNST was created in close collaboration with Gallerie Rasmus, with whom we have worked for many years. The gallery is known for its focus on high-quality contemporary art and for representing distinctive artistic voices with integrity and professionalism.

Our collaboration is based on mutual respect and a shared passion for exploration and outreach. Together, we create art exhibitions in Tranekær, where visitors encounter art in a setting that is both intimate and ambitious.

Our Vision

Our vision is put into practice through the following initiatives:

To create artistic experiences on Langeland—including exhibitions, lectures, and selected musical events—where art comes to life and is accessible to all
Strengthen collaboration with artists on and off Langeland—locally, nationally, and internationally
Building bridges between different forms of artistic expression—from visual arts and crafts to lectures and music
Actively contribute to the island's cultural development and visibility

The Special Place of Arts and Crafts

KUNST was founded by Mille Heindorf, Adam Mads Heindorf, and their mother, Trine Rasmussen. Together, they form a trio whose love of art and craftsmanship spans generations. Mille and Adam both work as goldsmiths, creating jewelry art with precious materials, and Trine has nurtured a deep passion for art and craftsmanship for many years, a passion she has passed on to her children.

The craft of goldsmithing is therefore a natural part of the event’s essence. In working with precious metals, gemstones, and form, special attention is paid to detail, the process, and the material’s own character. There is an honesty in the work of the hand. A rhythm in the repetition. A dialogue between human and material, where precision and presence go hand in hand.

Through KUNST, we make room for sensory work—for works that take time to create, and for artists who make the process visible. Arts and crafts embody both immersion and courage, and connect tradition with contemporary design.

A Community Centered on Art

ART at Tranekaer Center is more than just an exhibition.
It’s an invitation to come together.

As a visitor, you step into a space where you can experience the artworks up close—at eye level, in dialogue with them, and in harmony with the surroundings.

This gives rise to lively conversations with artists, in which ideas, processes, and materials are explored, adding multiple layers to the works.

Some years, you can watch artists at work right in the space. Other years, we set up temporary workshops where you can participate in the creative process yourself and get hands-on with the materials. The format may vary from year to year, but what they all have in common is the desire to provide insight into how art is created—and how that creation continues in the encounter between the viewer and the artwork.

Art All Over the Island

ART at Tranekaer Center is part of a larger artistic landscape. When we open our doors here, it happens in harmony with what’s happening throughout the rest of Langeland.

Art on Langeland takes many forms and is part of many communities, and KUNST is part of this vibrant movement.

This Easter, *Kunstnernes Åbne Døre* invites you to explore the island’s vibrant art scene. Artists across Langeland are opening their studios and workshops to visitors who want to experience creativity up close.

From painting and printmaking to ceramics, sculpture, glass art, and photographic art, a weekend of sensory experiences and personal stories unfolds. It’s an opportunity to feel Langeland’s creative energy and experience how art brings the island together—from coast to coast.

Location: Langeland – Tranekær, Tullebølle, Lohals, Bagenkop, Rudkøbing, and other locations on the island.
