The Area

Place of Power

Nature's healing powers are clearly present in the area around the sugar factory. This place is one of the few power centres in Denmark where the energy can truly be felt. Just outside the Center's door, nature and spiritual insight unite in an atmosphere of high spiritual energy.

Nature

Tranekær on Langeland is a true paradise for nature lovers, where forest, beach, and fields unite in unique harmony. The forest edge begins right in our garden and invites you to enchanting walks among majestic trees and vibrant vegetation. As you wander, you can enjoy the sight of abundant birdlife, where pheasants, cranes, and a variety of small birds dance among the branches. Roe deer and fallow deer sneak into the forest, and with their young fawns, they create an atmosphere of pure idyll.

Our closest neighbour is the medicinal gardens, Northern Europe's largest collection of medicinal plants, offering a unique opportunity to delve into nature's healing powers. Next door, you will find the magnificent Tranekær Castle, Denmark's oldest inhabited building, from which exceptional views stretch across the hilly landscape. Around the castle lake lies TICKON Park, a nature park known worldwide for its outstanding collection of rare trees and impressive land art.

Tranekær is a magical adventure where history and nature unite in the most beautiful way. Welcome to a place where every corner holds a new story, and where the beauty and adventure of nature await exploration.

The Archipelago Trail also passes right by Adamas Center and is an ideal hiking route through nature. You can continue directly from the garden into the beautiful Danish countryside. The entire route is 58 km on Langeland – and 220 km in its full length. You can find out more about it HERE.

Tranekær

In the northern part of Langeland lies the village of Tranekær. It is named after Tranekær Castle and is now part of Langeland Municipality. For long periods, Tranekær, as the residential town for the County of Langeland, was effectively the island's centre of power rather than the market town of Rudkøbing. Count Frederik Ahlefeldt-Laurvig (1760–1832), known as 'The General', particularly shaped Tranekær. He wished to transform the town into a principality following a German ideal. He established several businesses and institutions in the town and brought in foreign officials and craftsmen, whose descendants can still be found on the island. Tranekær still appears as 'The General's' town and is unique in Denmark.

Nearby attractions

TRANEKÆR CASTLE is the centre's neighbour to the north. It is the oldest inhabited building in Denmark, dating back to the 13th century. The castle has belonged to the Ahlefeldt-Laurvig family since 1672, who still reside there. The entire village is strongly influenced by the General's building projects from the 18th century. TICKON Park is located around Tranekær Castle. The name stands for 'Tranekær – International Centre for Art and Nature'. Here you can stroll through the beautiful Castle Park and experience organic land art by international artists, showcasing the interplay between art and nature. The Medicinal Gardens are the centre's neighbour to the east. An experience for the whole family, featuring edible medicinal plants and even the chance for an owl hunt. This medicinal-botanical park contains almost 650 different plants. It boasts Northern Europe's largest collection of medicinal plants, which is continuously expanded with new themed gardens. The Wild Horses at Flådet, Tranekær. Experience the Wild Horses in the Flådet area south of Tranekær. Scenically, the area around Tranekær is one of Langeland's most beautiful. 9,000 years ago, Flådet was used as a summer settlement. Horse Riding Tours at Stutteri Almindingen on Langeland. You can enjoy horse riding tours in scenic surroundings near forests and beaches. They offer riding tours suitable for all levels, from beginners to experienced riders, and for both individuals and groups. Their Icelandic horses, descendants of the original Viking horses, are known for their unique gaits, tölt and pace, in addition to the traditional walk, trot, and canter. Tranekær Lighthouse – North Langeland. The first lighthouse was built on Botofte Beach in 1858, where a lantern could be raised to a height of 4 metres using a hoisting mechanism. You can find more information via this link: Tranekær Lighthouse

Tranekær Church – Gothic style and whitewashed yellow. Located in the western part of Tranekær, the church dates back to 1450, and until 1942, the Castle Church belonged to the owners of Tranekær Castle. Find more information about the church by clicking this link: Tranekær Church

Tranekær Castle Mill. Mills are generally a characteristic feature of the island. Here you can go inside and see the entire mill, as well as experience the exhibition on the history of milling on Langeland. Read more via this link: Tranekær Castle Mill
