The Centre in Tranekaer is more than a retreat centre; it is a sanctuary where people gather to grow, explore their inner lives, and connect with themselves and each other. Since 2004, we have worked to realise a dream of creating an ecological and sustainable centre that provides space for learning, creative expression, and spiritual growth.
Under the leadership of Mille and Adam, we continue the legacy that Trine has built. We invest our time and resources in creating a foundation that enables the centre to be financially self-sustaining, while preserving its philanthropic spirit. Our vision is to establish the Centre as a meeting place for all who seek insight, creativity, and personal development.
Slow living
On Langeland, time moves at a different pace.
Here, natural pauses emerge between activities. Conversations are allowed to unfold. A cup of tea lingers a little longer. A walk is allowed to take as long as it needs.
The body settles. Breathing deepens. Your senses open to the nature around you.
Mobile reception is intermittent, creating a natural distance from what usually demands your attention. Buses run infrequently, which invites you to stay a little longer and settle in more deeply.
For many, a stay at the Centre becomes an opportunity to step out of a constant flow and into a rhythm where the body sets the pace.
It creates space to be present – with yourself and with others.

Creativity and Spirituality
The Centre offers a wide range of courses, festivals, and workshops, with a focus on yoga, meditation, dance, tantra, and crafts. Our events inspire and engage, serving as a gateway to deeper immersion and learning. Throughout the year, we will continue to attract skilled facilitators who are passionate about sharing their knowledge and experience.
Environment
We are deeply committed to creating a sustainable future, both for the environment and for the people who visit us. Our kitchen prioritises quality ingredients from the local area and our own kitchen garden. We have a clear strategy to minimise waste and protect our beautiful surroundings, which includes tidying up natural areas and investing in sustainable heating and energy systems.
Future
Our long-term vision includes growth in both activities and accommodation options, so we can accommodate more participants and offer even more experiences. We wish to develop our facilities, including the addition of new spaces for workshops and other events, which will further enrich our programme.
A Safe and Inclusive Space
The centre will always be a drug-free environment, where respect and compassion are central. Alcohol is generally not permitted either. We strive to create an inclusive space where everyone feels welcome, and where there is room for both deep conversations and play.
At Sukkerfabrikken, we look forward to continuing this journey and working with Tranekaer Castle in planning future opportunities for our area. We hope to create a magical destination that can inspire, transform, and bring people together.
Economy
We wish to be transparent and open about the Centre. Here at the site, our family shares a common vision to create a sustainable and meaningful sanctuary for spiritual growth.
The Family's Commitment and Financial Contribution
Since Trine founded the retreat centre in 2005, the focus has always been on following a passion, without the intention of making a profit. This has only been possible through Trine's personal investments of savings and inheritance. Mille returned to the island as an adult and has contributed countless unpaid hours, driven by the significance of the work. When Adam later joined, he also invested both his time and financial resources without drawing any money, all to improve the place and realise the vision.
Sustainability and Costs
Although none of us run the place to make a profit, it requires significant resources to maintain and operate the centre at a level that meets both our and our guests' expectations. Over time, we will also need to be able to pay ourselves a salary, as we all wish to dedicate ourselves 100% to the place. Furthermore, we are committed to ensuring fair conditions and wages for both staff and facilitators, while providing the best service for our guests. For example, we use organic ingredients in the kitchen and traditional techniques and materials for maintaining the old listed buildings, which increases costs but is essential for long-term sustainability.
Long-term Vision
Our pricing is designed to cover only the basic operating costs, without generating additional profit. We strive to create a place that can continue far into the future, even when we are no longer here. The vision for the centre is to create a sustainable source of spiritual guidance and development, where people can find support and inspiration on their personal journeys.
